DE PISIS
The technique, that is, De Pisis’s means of expression, is more or less the familiar one: light touches and deep marks (where the colour darkens); an elusive but firm drawing, an aerial, soaring, windborne line. Such are the means from which the subject is woven – impalpable, transparent, glasslike in itself. Everything is clear, crazed with light. In order to make a comparison, we must seek recourse to Tintoretto – San Rocco comforted by the Angel, disposing of an equally elusive material.

(Giuseppe Raimondi, “Filippo De Pisis”, Vallecchi Editore Firenze, 1952, p. 19)
